Sekulić Icon Collection

Moreover, the Belgrade City Museum contains the Sekulić Icon Collection in 5 Uzun Mirkova Street, in the apartment of Pava and Milan Sekulić, the architect who designed the building in which his family home was located. In addition to the largest collection of icons that can be seen in Serbia in one place, this couple of avid collectors bequeathed a large collection of paintings and works of applied arts to the city of Belgrade.

The collection contains 165 icons from the period between the 15th and the 20th centuries in Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Greece and Russia. The most beautiful icons offer a rare opportunity to observe and trace the main directions in the development of the Greek icon painting in the post-Byzantine era. In addition to icons, its authentic interior houses a collection of paintings of the most eminent Serbian painters of the 19th and the 20th centuries.
