The Monument to Dositej Obradović - Academic Park
The monument to the great Serbian enlightener and writer, erected in 1914, was originally placed in Knez Mihailova St, at the entrance to the Kalemegdan Park. During the 1930s, when the Academic Park was set up, the monument was moved there. The bronze figure, the work of sculptor Rudolf Valdec, shows the first Serbian enlightener as “the hero of the quill, traveling the world in quest for knowledge.” Dositej Obradović is represented in motion, holding a hat, a cane and books, with his words inscribed on the lower part of the pedestal: “Learn while walking, look at the centuries!”
