Dorćol

The name originates from Turkish and means ‘an intersection of four streets’. Along with the Bajrakli Mosque and the Türbe of Sheikh Mustafa, the eminent building that houses the Museum of Vuk and Dositej, located in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Belgrade, represents an architectural proof of Turkish rule in Belgrade. You can see the oldest preserved private home in Belgrade, a vestige of Dunavska varoš (Danube’s Town) from the 18th century, in 10 Dušanova Street in Dorćol.

Today, Dorćol is a predominantly modern neighborhood and a favorite walking venue of riverfront enthusiasts which with its numerous cafés, restaurants and bars constitutes one of entertainment districts in Belgrade. One of its most attractive venues is Strahinjića Bana Street, where good nightlife lasts into the early hours of the morning.
